Preface
Whole Music Drumming
follows the concept that the best way to understand music is through a whole-part-whole
process. Start with the whole song, break it into parts, then put it back
together as a whole.
Whole Music Drumming is organized in seven parts,
plus a curriculum, and an appendix:
| |
* Technique
and Drum Set Beats which
deal with the technical part of drumming
* Rhythmic Concepts -- the vocabulary of
rhythm
* The Written Phrase --
reading and writing presented in the context of the musical phrase
* Song Journal, Tonality and
Improvisation utilizing musical examples to reinforce all the
other parts
* Unit Curriculum -- organized to guide you through this
book
* Appendix, consisting of Glossary, Drum Buying Guide, How to
Set Up
your Home Practice Studio and Essays. |
|
Whole Music Drumming
has been organized to achieve a balance between the conceptual, the musical and
the technical. All the parts of WMD are meant to be used together
simultaneously, and not in book order. In fact, you are highly encouraged to go through
WMD in any order that serves your needs.
Read the Introduction first
In order to understand how this book differs from all the
others and really get a grasp on this concept, read the Introduction
first. You may never view music in the same way again.
Following the
Introduction is the Unit Curriculum which takes all seven
parts of WMD and integrates them onto a time line of one to two school years. If carefully followed, it gives both teacher and student a step by
step understanding of how to use Whole Music
Drumming.
Whole Music Drumming includes
lifetime online support.
I also welcome any questions you may have about how to use the materials in this
