We hope you have had a joyous holiday season filled with lots of family time and wonderful experiences. The holidays for us meant that our three children (ages 15, 18 and 21) were all home at the same time! That’s what happens when they get older and strike out on their own. I always appreciate my good fortune when we’re all together. I’m especially touched by the way all three kids get along, as evidenced when they meet in one of their bedrooms. There they catch up and exchange stories that only belong to their “club” that they’ve formed.
The winter session of Sallys Music Circle classes with Rob Zollman starts on Tuesday, January 17. .
Sally’s Music Circle is an award winning program consisting of weekly 45 minute classes of singing, dancing and instrument playing for infants through age 5 and their parents/caregivers. It is fun, energetic and gives your child(ren) a great start in music. Interestingly, you may find the classes beneficial to your own music understanding. In my own experience taking my children to Sally’s classes many years ago, I eventually concluded they thought the classes were actually for me. In their minds, they were just coming along with their daddy!
We’ll meet each Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Brandon Motor Lodge, where we are hosted by Stacey, Aaron and their two children Taber and Pema. Dates include 9 consecutive Tuesday mornings: 1/17, 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28 and 3/6. The Spring term will begin the following week and run until mid-May when the Motor Lodge will re-occupy their breakfast room.
Tuition for the each term is $105 — $80 for classes plus $25 for the Sally’s Music Circle Fall Volume 1 CD and songbook. Although there are 9 weeks, the tuition is based on 8 classes @ $10 each, with a 9th class for which you do not pay. It is a free make up class that is built into the schedule in case you miss a class along the way.
If you have more than one child, add $60 for your 2nd child (no additional CD/book), $50 for your 3rd, and your 4th child is free. Siblings under 3 months old or over 5 years old also attend for free. If you have an older child on school vacation, he/she is welcome to join — you don’t need to miss class or hire a babysitter. However, I do appreciate if you email or call ahead to let me know.
Sally’s Music Circle was founded upon the belief that it is important for young children to have the opportunity to participate in these early music making classes. If you are interested in being part of our program and have difficulty coming up with the tuition, please email or call. We have been known to barter services or goods, and there is also a small amount of scholarship money available..
To register, please click here for the registration form and email/snail mail it back, or bring it to class on the 25th. Either way, please email or call me (345-1714) so that I know who’s coming. If youre already in our records and your information is the same, you don’t have to fill out another registration form, but do email or call me.
Sally’s Music Circle educational information and history Sallys Music Circle was founded in the Philadelphia suburbs in 1992 by Dr. Sally Weaver, myself and several like-minded musicians and educators. It has won Best of Philadelphia awards several years since then. Sally Weaver holds a doctorate in music education and was a protégé of Dr. Edwin Gordon, who spent 50 years researching how people learn music. His writings can be found in his Learning Sequences in Music published by GIA. Further information on Dr. Gordon can be accessed at the Gordon Institute for Music Learning online at www.giml.org. The Sallys Music Circle website can be viewed at www.sallysmusic.com.
Rob Zollman co-produced, arranged and performed the series of 8 companion CDs for the 8 terms of Sallys Music Circle (about 130 different songs). As a lifelong percussionist and drummer, Rob has a BMus in percussion, is a trained drum circle facilitator and has taken several summers of Orff and Kodaly training. He also studied with Edwin Gordon and is a certified Sallys Music Circle Teacher and Teacher Trainer. Rob performs and teaches in Brandon and throughout Vermont.
Please forward this information to anyone you know with young children, as we need a minimum number for classes to run. Also, if you can’t make it this time let us know and we’ll contact you for future sessions.
Thanks, and I look forward to making music with you and your children.

FREE CLASSES next summer at the Brandon Town Library 10 AM on Tuesdays and Fridays in July.
